Why is "aethra" in the Nom/Abl/Voc. case in "quando aethra firmabat sursum"?
Why is "aethra" in the Nom/Abl/Voc. case in "quando aethra firmabat sursum"? (The phrase is from Prov 8:28, Latin Vulgate, and is translated as "when he established the sky above...").
Shouldn't it read ..."aethram"? Or is "aethra in the Ablative because it's a locative?

Aida is correct. If you need a reference, see below. It's to Section 81 of Allen and Greenough, a highly reputable Latin grammar. The authors just happened to pick 'aethera' as their example of a third declension noun retaining the Greek forms of inflection.
