Always be wary while getting used breakers over the internet
For many years now, electricians and members of the general public have been saving themselves money by purchasing used breakers when they need to replace their original circuit breakers which have stopped working. This is a great idea, but people buying need to make absolutely sure when purchasing these used breakers that they are buying from a reputable source.
Most places online do sell decent used breakers, but you really do have to be careful. Try to find a company who give you assurances about the quality and condition of the used breakers. Try to fin out if they have been completely reconditioned, and if you can, you should try to find out about the process that these used breakers have been through to make sure that they are up to the standard of new breakers.
If you search thoroughly online for a company that sells used breakers, you should be able to find a company who offers some sort of warranty on the breakers, although you will have to be prepared to look hard to find these companies. There will be plenty of sites advertising used breakers which are just as good as new breakers, but until you find a site which gives you guarantees about the quality of the product, you should not make a purchase.
Don't let the thought of finding a decent used breaker with a warranty put you off the second hand market, because once you track down a decent reputable firm, you will be glad you spent the time looking. The great thing about these used breakers is that when you find a decent company to sell them to you, you will receive a product that is covered by a warranty that is just as strong as a warranty you would get for a new breaker, and you also stand to save hundreds of pounds!
Any company that sells used breakers should have a product that is covered by a very strong warranty, ideally which lasts as long as a warranty for a new breaker. The unit should have been completely reconditioned, and in appearance it should not differ very much at all from a new breaker. Of course, there is going to be some sign of use, but it should be minimal.
As we mentioned before it certainly is worth persevering when hunting for a reputable firm to sell you used breakers. Once you find this firm, you can reliably buy used breakers for all of your needs. Used breakers tend to be a good alternative for jobbing electricians, because it is often the case that they are asked to source breakers for a client. If they are able to buy used breakers, they can make a saving, which can either be passed on to the client, which will win them repeat business, or they can keep the profit they have made by sourcing a cheaper breaker than the client would normally expect! Used breakers should always be used if possible, because there is just so much money to be saved. Just make sure you know all about the company you are buying from.
