Creating The Breeam Dream
A comprehensive look at BREEAM, the BRE's method of measuring the sustainability of a building, is under the spotlight in seminars taking place in London and Birmingham, organised by office design and fit out company, Morgan Lovell.
The breakfast sessions - aimed at project managers responsible for office fit outs - will cover the benefits and drawbacks of going for a BREEAM rating, the legislation, how to achieve high ratings and the future for the assessment method.
Despite the downturn, clients are still asking for BREEAM ratings for their office fit out projects and many organisations are using BREEAM as an energy-reduction exercise to cut costs and add to their bottom line.
Led by Lara Conaway - sustainability manager at office design and fit out company Morgan Lovell - the project managers' seminar takes place on Wednesday, March 18, at the company's London office in Noel Street and on Wednesday, March 25 at Birmingham's Radisson SAS Hotel.
A leading expert in sustainable office interiors, Lara's inspirational and practical approach has made her a regular figure in the press, as well as the speaker circuit.
Lara said: "Despite the downturn, sustainability is still high on the agenda for clients looking for office space - but now clients are looking at green issues as a way to cut costs and add to the bottom line.
"The session will focus on tips project managers can offer to clients when assessing for BREEAM and look at real examples of rated projects, and their challenges and pitfalls."
Starting at 8.30am, breakfast is included and the sessions qualify delegates for CPD credits. Registration is free, but places are limited. To register go to http://www.morganlovell.co.uk/events or call 01462 490609.
A 100 point sustainable office design checklist will be handed to delegates at the end of the session.

What's the AmE word for the BrE "fuse box"?
I've heard "circuit breaker panel", but I'm not sure this is a common way to say it. I'm not looking for a technical term, but for a common colloquial term... Maybe "electrical box"?
Hi,
Well, a "breaker box" and a "fuse box" are two different things. A fuse box contains fuses that have a low melting temperature element that melts when the circuit overloads and the fuse must be replaced. A breaker box contains switches (circuit breakers) that trip (turn off) when the circuit overloads. The breaker can be reset when the overload is cleared. In the United States, fuse boxes are no longer installed in buildings where people live. Both of these terms, fuse box and breaker box, are commonly used terms in the USA.
