Are DVD recorders with hard drives becoming obsolete?
I purchased a DVD recorder with a hard drive a couple of years ago and I love it. The only thing I don't love is that my hard drive keeps getting full because I save so much stuff.
I've been considering getting a new one with a bigger hard drive and my fiance told me that you can't find them anymore in the stores. I didn't believe him but when we looked at Circuit City, we didn't see any. Are they becoming obsolete? If they are, I don't understand why because they are great. I would think everyone would want one.
There are not a lot of choices in the US, apparently the manufacturers don't think there is much of a market.
Walmart seems to be replacing it's Philips DVDR3575H (160 gig-$300) recorder with a cheaper Magnavox H2080MW8 that only has a 80 gig hard drive ($200).
You might still be able to find the Philips somewhere. It still shows up on the Circuit City web site.
Both of these recorders include digital tuners which you will probably need after the analog channels shut down on 2/17/09. (If you have a question about this, post the model # of your recorder and how you get your TV signals).
The last link below is a DVD recorder forum. If any new DVD/HD recorders become available in the US, someone is sure to start a thread about it.
